Job Description

Job Summary Efficiency Services Group (ESG) helps utilities deliver high-quality energy efficiency programs to their communities, including rural and hard-to-reach customers. Our mission is to ensure customers have access to programs that help them reduce energy use, lower costs, and improve comfort in their homes and businesses. The Field Technician plays a key role in delivering these programs by working directly with customers, contractors, and utility partners. This position conducts energy audits and project inspections, supports customers through the rebate process, processes rebates, and ensures projects meet program requirements. The role combines field work and program support, including site visits, virtual inspections, customer communication, project tracking, scheduling, documentation, and rebate processing. Field Technicians represent ESG and our utility partners in the community and help ensure energy efficiency programs are delivered with accuracy, professionalism, and excellent customer service. This role involves frequent travel and hands-on field work, including inspections in attics, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, and commercial facilities. Responsibilities 1. Conduct onsite and virtual inspections to verify that energy efficiency upgrades or equipment have been installed to program quality standards. 2. Conduct residential and commercial energy audits and prepare audit reports and calculators. 3. Manage customer projects from initial inquiry through project completion and verification. 4. Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure records are complete in ESG program databases. 5. Coordinate with customers, contractors, and internal staff to resolve project issues and maintain accurate records of resolutions. 6. Respond to customer and contractor questions regarding rebate applications, program processes, energy audits, and inspections. 7. Provide basic technical guidance on program specifications and energy efficiency technologies to customers and contractors. 8. Communicate program concepts and requirements clearly to contractors, customers, and other interested stakeholders. 9. Track project status to support program reporting and utility budget tracking. 10. Respond to residential high-bill inquiries and assist customers in identifying potential causes of high energy use. 11. Manage field schedules and coordinate appointments to maximize efficiency. 12. Support overall program operations including answering utility customer calls, generating audit reports and calculators, data entry, and administrative support. 13. Represent ESG and client utilities professionally in the field and maintain strong working relationships with utility staff. 14. Stay current on program changes, policies, and procedures. 15. Complete monthly expense reporting and attend required staff meetings. 16. Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. 17. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None Skills The Field Technician develops and maintains technical knowledge to address customer and contractor inquiries and support program delivery.
  • Residential insulation, windows and air filtration

  • Energy Star appliances and common residential energy-using equipment
  • Understanding how building systems and occupant behavior impact energy consumption
Additional knowledge and skills:
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; general computer proficiency
  • Working knowledge of ESG’s proprietary customer database (after training)

Minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Ability to travel regionally up to 10 days per month
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office
Note: Attention to detail, basic math proficiency, and project management are especially important. This position requires the capacity to manage numerous projects simultaneously from initiation through completion with minimum supervision. Maintaining accurate program data is essential to the success of ESG programs. Desired Attributes 1. One year of closely related work experience in energy efficiency, construction or building systems preferred 2. Energy Efficiency or Energy Management program of study completion a plus Physical Demands 3. Ability to climb ladders, crawl and maneuver into and around tight spaces (attics, crawl spaces, etc.) 4. Ability to carry ladders, tools and equipment (up to 50 pounds) 5. Ability to drive long distances 6. Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as damp areas, crawl spaces, construction sites, and agricultural or industrial facilities 7. Ability to travel extended periods of time 8. Ability to perform office-related tasks and provide effective communication from the field Travel This position requires regional travel in the Pacific Northwest and occasionally California. Travel typically consists of 2- to 4-day road trips to conduct field inspections and visit customer sites, averaging up to 10 days per month. Professional Pathway(s) Field Specialist Notes:
