Pioneer Board Nominations

Utility Pioneers from nine districts across the nation advocate for members and lead the co-op on Pioneer’s Board of Directors.

Three-year terms are filled by member utility CEOs/general managers or board members. The board meets at least three times each year, virtually or in person.

Pioneer’s utility members elect three directors annually at Pioneer’s Cooperative Member Meeting. There are no term limits.

In keeping with the bylaws of Pioneer Utility Resources, the Board of Directors is seeking nominations of individuals interested in serving on the cooperative’s expanded nine-member board. Elections for the following positions will be completed just before Pioneer’s Annual Cooperative Member Meeting June 26, 2026. Self-nomination is acceptable.

Nominations are open March 5 to 31, 2026.

Board Seats Up for Election:

  1. Atlantic, currently held by Marshall Cherry,* CEO, Roanoke Cooperative
  2. West, currently held by Dave Lock, CEO, Grand Canyon State Electric Cooperative Association
  3. At-Large, currently held by Lisa Johnson, CEO and General Manager, Seminole Electric Cooperative

*The incumbent expressed interest in seeking re-election in 2026.

Qualifications, Duties and Nomination Process

Nominees must be the top executive (CEO, General Manager or equivalent) or a board member of a Pioneer-member organization for the district in which the vacancy occurs. All qualified nominees can seek nomination to an at-large district seat.

Pioneer reimburses directors for out-of-pocket expenses related to meeting attendance but does not pay a per diem or stipend. The board meets three to four times per year. There are two meetings per year where in-person attendance is strongly encouraged, though attendance by phone or video call is permitted for all meetings. There are occasional special meetings and committee meetings. These are held by video or telephone call. Anyone with an interest in serving on the board should contact Pioneer CEO Michael Shepard for more information.
