Why did the ocean break up with the shore?
Because it was feeling tide down.

OK, now that we’ve got that out of the way, grab your snorkel and get ready to dive into StoryConnect on the Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, April 13-16. This isn’t a typical conference. We pack each day with networking, laughter and practical skills to strengthen your storytelling.

We’re two months away from our favorite event of the year. Can’t wait? Our agenda offers a preview of what you’ll learn this year, including:

1. Cut the Kelp for Clear Writing

In Cut the Kelp: The Battle for Better Writing, you’ll watch a panel of writing experts edit their way to victory! Learn how to untangle dense language and simplify your message so it flows smoothly to your audience.

2. Reframe Your Story for Kids

As a writer on shows like “Paw Patrol,” “Spirit Rangers” and “Cocomelon Lane,” Joey Clift specializes in storytelling for one of the toughest audiences out there—kids. His session explores how to communicate complex ideas in ways that are engaging, respectful and relatable for young audiences. Expect humor, heart and plenty of “aha” moments. Listen to his story on Episode 367 of “The StoryConnect Podcast.”

3. Share and Compare Ideas

The Idea Exchange is like swimming through a reef of creativity. On Tuesday, nine attendees have three minutes to share actionable ideas—from campaigns to content formats—that you can adapt and deploy right away. But wait, there’s more! We added an Idea Exchange roundtable Wednesday morning, so you can hear from more of your peers and share ideas of your own. You’ll surface with pages of inspiration ready to use.

4. Find Fresh Photo Perspectives

Stories need visuals that feel real. Photojournalist Billy Weeks leads three sessions and offers photo office hours to help you take compelling photos without fancy gear. You’ll learn how images can anchor your storytelling and help your message connect at first glance.

5. Strengthen Community Connections

Get the recipe for using stories to strengthen community ties from Kathi Rennaker, marketing director for the internationally loved Almond Roca brand. This session proves that if you blend personality with purpose, your story becomes a community anchor.

6. Dive into Data

By popular request, we’re bringing back our data roundtables and making it a general session so everyone can join the adventure. A series of peer discussions will focus on broadband and electric consumer data, surveys and customer experience, digital ad analytics, market data and social media analytics.
