Brian Gabriel Canever is an Argentine-New Jerseyan storyteller based in Knoxville, Tennessee. In the past decade, he has written about American cage fighters, immigrant soccer players, frontline healthcare workers, Appalachian humanitarian workers, and hundreds of local, national, and international nonprofit, small business, and higher education leaders.
For four years, he served as a public relations specialist and brand writer for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was recognized by the Tennessee College Public Relations Association (TCPRA) and Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for his profile and feature writing. Currently, he works as the content marketing manager for UT’s Global Supply Chain Institute and as an adjunct professor of journalism and public relations.
Brian writes the newsletter “Storytime with Big Head,” co-hosts a regional soccer podcast, and is working on his first published collection of essays and short stories in 2023. He speaks about the craft at local and national conferences and coaches writers and others on how to tell their stories better.
Before earning a master’s degree in communication and information from the University of Tennessee, Brian attended William Paterson University, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in Latin American and Latino Studies. He is married and has two children he is coaching to play in the World Cups of their respective genders by the time they turn 18. On the very rare occasion that he has a Saturday morning, you can find Brian on a river trying to hook any kind of fish that will bite.
