Joel Myer

Communicator Emeritus

Speaker, StoryConnect

For over 18 years, Joel Myer served as public information and government relations manager at Mason PUD 3, earning a reputation as one of public power’s most trusted communicators. His work in transparency and community engagement earned him the Lacy Peoples Award and the PPC Golden Communicator Award. His team received NWPPA’s Tom Hougan Award for excellence.

During his tenure at PUD 3, the utility consistently earned national recognition for its social media, digital, and print communications. Before joining the electric utility world, Joel was News Director at KMAS Radio and later worked for the City of Shelton. In 1992, he famously completed the shortest honorably served term as a Mason County Commissioner, 2.5 months of pure civic efficiency.

An Evergreen graduate with a focus on economics and public policy, Joel is known for strategic thinking, creative outreach, and lively presentations. In retirement, he edits The Energy News Digest, writes haiku, and plays ukulele with a collection that has grown to more than 25 instruments—because one simply isn’t enough.
