For over 18 years, Joel Myer
served as public information and government relations manager at
Mason PUD 3, earning a reputation as one of
public power’s most trusted communicators. His work in transparency and
community engagement earned him the Lacy Peoples Award and the PPC Golden
Communicator Award. His team received NWPPA’s Tom Hougan Award for excellence.
During his tenure at PUD 3, the utility consistently earned national recognition
for its social media, digital, and print communications. Before joining the
electric utility world, Joel was News Director at
KMAS Radio and later worked
for the City of Shelton. In 1992, he
famously completed the shortest honorably served term as a Mason County
Commissioner, 2.5 months of pure civic efficiency. An Evergreen graduate with a
focus on economics and public policy, Joel is known for strategic thinking,
creative outreach, and lively presentations. In retirement, he edits
The Energy News Digest,
writes haiku, and plays ukulele with a collection that has grown to more than 25
instruments—because one simply isn’t enough.
